Yorkshire’s own St Margaret Clitherow is an inspirational historical figure who was martyred for harbouring Catholic priests in 1586.
Paulinus arrived in England in 601, a Roman monk sent on mission to our island by Pope Saint Gregory the Great.
Born in late 11th century York, William entered the church. Initially holding the prebendary of Weighton, he was later appointed canon treasurer of York Minster and archdeacon of the East Riding.
The patron of our church, St Wilfrid of York was born in Northumberland in the Seventh Century. At the ripe old age of fourteen, he joined the monastery at Lindisfarne, before travelling to France and Italy.
